Floating

when we were young
i would race you
across the green grass
of summer

arms
legs
flailing
bare and tanned
from afternoon suns

plunging into
pale waters
whispering
waiting
bobbing like gulls
we'd float on the
surface
arms outstretched
fingers touching
gazing into
cloudless skies

floating

floating

floating

until the day
folded into night

you were everything
those summers
strong
beautiful

and
mine
