Key West ... Part 1, Mallory Square

Welcome to Key West!
Isn't this view fantastic?  It is taken from the tallest building on Key West at the Crown Plaza La Concha Hotel on Duval Street.  If you ever go, take the elevator to the top floor where there is a bar and chairs to take in the day's sunset.  But you better go early ...

Another view is from the Shipwreck Museum.  You can see the platform above.  We've not climbed to that perch but it looks like it would be mighty fine!

There are lots of ways to explore the island.  The Professor and I prefer to do it the old fashion way on bicycles.  But there are plenty of local trolleys, buses and the like to give you a nice overview of the town.

There are a fair number of museums near Mallory Square.
All within walking distance of each other.

There are many statues all around the city as well.
I especially like these that are in front of the Museum of Art & History.

This one is called Sightseeing.

And of course that has to be one of Ernest Hemingway.

This one is called Fun Time.  It's HUGE but perhaps a bit dated, right?

Around the corner from these museums is Capt. Tony's Saloon which has been patronized through the years by many well-known folks like Hemingway, Truman Capote,  Jimmy Buffett, John F. Kennedy and even Harry Truman.  The large Jewfish on the front of the building is one that Captain Tony caught and had preserved.  It is said that if you throw a quarter into the mouth of the fish, good luck will follow you until you leave the island.

I wonder how many quarters lie in that gullet?

Sunset Time

The best part of Key West for me is their sunsets.  Many folks head to Mallory Square to catch the sunset as well as enjoy the crafts and street artists that fill the area.

There's a little bit of everything.

... and then there are the sunsets ...

... where some take in the sunsets from the many boats available for sunset cruises ...

But me and my Nikon are just fine on land capturing
these incredible sunsets.
Just can't get enough of them!

Hope you enjoyed some of the views from Mallory Square.
But there is more coming!

Until later friends,
