Alaska's Kenai Fjords

Well ... I'm finally back here to continue sharing our Alaska trip.
Last week was spent with family (18 of us all together!!)
in Florida, which left little time to visit here.  More on that later.

Now, back to Alaska.

From Seward, we booked a full day glacier and wildlife tour
(for 16 of us photographers, nonetheless!)
to Resurrection Bay, Aialik Bay, Northwestern Fjord and the Chiswell Islands.
We were guaranteed to see whales, porpoises, sea lions, sea otters and seabird rookeries.
And we were not disappointed!
Apparently, 20,000 migrating gray and humpback whales pass by the Kenai Fjords each year.

We also visited the tidewater glaciers in
Aialik Bay and Holgate Arm in the Kenai Fjords National Park.
But that will be for another post.

I'm including just a very small sampling of the sea critters we came upon.
Whale pods delighted us with their spray, porpoises chased us as we sped along,
but it was the sea lions that amused me the most as they balanced
above crashing waves.

Hope you enjoyed.
Tomorrow, I'll share some of the awesome glaciers we came upon.

Later, my friends,

Really fantastic shots. Incredible. The one with the seals and the rust color on the rock in the middle of the ocean is the standout knockout calendar shot. What some beautiful finds! And it looks so nice and cool. I don't know what that feels like anymore:) Inspiring stuff here.

I see a table top book of this adventure in your future ... where are you two off to next?

I agree with Daryl....I highly recommend the photo book route. I have several now (still have some regular old photo albums, too) just to make my memories more "available." What a fabulous experience to see these fjord creatures. In a few of your photos, they look like sculptures or part of the landscape.

What amazingly gorgeous pics from Kenai. We did not make it there so I truly enjoyed these and the native critters. I wish we had seen some whales but we were too early.
