Recovering

Since I last visited with you, this has been my view as I have been busy rebuilding my photo libraries.  Many of you were so helpful with the various ways in which you do your own backups and going forward, I'm feeling more confident with my new process.  (Time Machine, CrashPlan, SmugBug and PhanFare).

I'm mostly bummed about losing all my Istanbul pictures.  The only salvageable ones were those I posted.  And that was only a few.  ~ sigh ~

But life goes on.  Over the last few days, I joined The Professor who had some meetings in San Diego.  The weather has been beautiful and I was able to steal him away for an hour here and there to explore a bit.

And of course take some photos!

We visited a few neighboring areas that included La Jolla, Coronado and Old Town.
The image below is of the Hotel del Coronado, an old Victorian beach resort that is now the oldest and largest all-wooded building in California.

Of course, I'm always drawn to the water.

 It always calms me.

And I could use a little calm ....

 after my last week!
But all is well with the world again.
~ smile ~

Have a great week, my friends!

Oh, I will have to check out these backup plans. Let me know which ones you like the best.

And yes, such a shame about the Istanbul photos. I still can't even think about all the ones I lost that are gone forever . . . and so I don't.

Lovely wide angle of the Del Coronado ... brings back fond memories of summer vacations with my folks, both gone now ... and my kids. It's a wonderful place.

I feel your pain. It always stresses me the thought of losing hours of work. If you have a facebook, I upload the pics right away as back up and then put them on my extra server that connects up to the computer. Glad you had a nice time in San Diego. Looks beautiful. Happy New Year!

I missed your post about losing your photos ... I'm so sorry.

I have lots of family in San Diego, and we always go to the beach when we are there. La Jolla is so pretty.

Hi Reena,
Brian from his blog said to send you a message because since I ordered more storage space on blogger.com it no longer lets me post photos. He said you had similar problems and got it around it somehow? If you can tell me how I would be forever grateful. My blog is at http://myretirementchronicles.blogspot.com
Thanks so much!,
Joan

Reena: I marvel that you have the technical talent to know how to retrieve what data you can. These are really nice photos!

What a tragedy to lose your pictures, also a timely reminder to me to do some backing up.
Like you, I am drawn to the water and enjoyed your pics of the San Deigo area.

looks like a wonderful trip! i love san diego. every time i see the hotel del coronado, i think of the movie "some like it hot". :)

sorry you lost so many photos when your mac died. you're not alone in thinking you were doing something correctly only to discover stuff missing when things went haywire.

Oh to be deaf at this time in history! Everyone would be freaking out and there you are shaking your head saying "WTF?!" Your trying to read lips and you decide that all of your friends a complete a-holes. And in your best deaf voice you say, "Funny joke guys, no stop moving your lips like a bad kung-fu movie. Now when are we going to get back to work on the tower?"
