Maine reflections, part two ...

Well, we finally made it home from New England  ... only to find tropical storm Lee still lingering around Philly.  Perhaps we came home too early!

But no matter.  It's always nice to come home even if Kitty Kitty gives me the cold shoulder.  He'll come around in a day or two.  Kitties are like that ...

The thing I like best about returning home after a trip is browsing through all the photos taken.  It's almost like living the trip all over again.  Even months and years later, I will stroll through old travel pics and simply enjoy the memory.

Such a simple pleasure.

Want to stroll with me?

After we left Belfast, we made our way down to Camden.  I love love love Camden.

It sits below Mt. Battie, one of the two mountains rising majestically above Camden.  In 1912, Edna St. Vincent Millay read “Renascence,” a poem she wrote from the top of Mt. Battie.

All I could see from where I stood
Was three long mountains and a wood;
I turned and looked another way,
And saw three islands in a bay.
So with my eyes I traced the line
Of the horizon, thin and fine,
Straight around till I was come
Back to where I'd started from;
And all I saw from where I stood
Was three long mountains and a wood.

It really is like that when you stand on top of Mt. Battie.  Such a sight to behold!

This shot was captured from our hotel room.  We stayed at an inn right on Main street overlooking the harbor.  This ended up being a good choice!

Unbeknownst to us, every Labor Day is Camden's Windjammer Festival.  Even with the crowd that came in for the event, we had a delightful time joining all the folks along the wharf to marvel at the beautiful schooners.  And with our room overlooking the harbor, we had perfect seats to watch the fireworks that night.

Our second day in Camden, we had to drive by and see the Belted Galloway cows.  I call them the 'oreo' cows.  They are quite a draw for visitors.

I'm not sure who the daddy is to this calf!  First brown 'oreo' I've ever seen!

We took a drive down the coast a bit to Owls Head.  There's a nice lighthouse there where a few people at a time can actually go up inside it.

Further down the road a bit we came upon another lighthouse at Birch Point Beach Park.  One CANNOT go to Maine without taking a lighthouse picture!

Okay, so I'm missing my critter pictures, so I had to capture this cow's expression as we came upon her through one of the small little towns.  She reminded me so much of Borden's Dairy, Elsie the Cow.  Now you know I'm REALLY old if I remember Elsie!

Port Clyde is a great place to have lunch and that is exactly what we did.  Can you guess what we had?  Yep, lobstah!  We were eating lobster for lunch and for dinner almost every day!

It was a great day trip for exploring.  When we got back into Camden, lots of folks were heading back to their boats for the evening.  This little pup was serving as a fine Captain for his crew!

Camden is such a delightful place from which to explore the coast.  But, we had another town to go to and tomorrow I'll wrap up our trip with a little tour of Boothbay Harbor.

Until then, friends,

(By the way, in many of the photos I have been sharing from Maine, I processed them using HDR.  I think it gives them a nice old-time warm feeling of such a beautiful part of the country.)
