Love at the Five and Dime

"We don't remember days, we remember moments."
~  Cesare Pavese  ~

Looking forward to a nice long weekend and I will be kicking it off by seeing one of my
favorite musicians in Annapolis.

Nanci Griffith

One of my her songs, "Love at the Five and Dime", takes me down memory lane and the Woolworth store in Muscatine, Iowa, a small river town
that sits on the Mississippi.

My grandmother and I would frequent it during the hot summer months.

I have great memories of sitting at the counter at that five and dime store
and ordering ice cream sundaes!
A rare treat for a farming family of modest means.

It's a beautiful song as well as delightful!
Hope you enjoy.

By the way,
what are you doing this weekend?

Do share!

We aren't doing anything special...just family time...perhaps at the pool if the weather cooperates. I too have great memories of Woolworth! YUM! I would love getting a milkshake at the counter there.

Great pic!

wonderful photo! i like your "action" treatment!

i remember woolworth too! (same one as texwisgirl's actually.) i recall they had a large fabric department, and a wall full of pets, fish and birds, in the lower level. mom would pick out material while i talked to the parakeets.

have a wonderful time at nancy's show!

Love the photo and love the video!

As a young girl I spent many hours at the counter of my Woolworths. They used to hang balloons at the counter and inside would be a coupon for a discount off your ice cream soda or sundae.

Thanks for the good memories Reena!

Love Nanci!! And when I hear 5 & Dime, I am transported back to Franklin, Tennessee, and our Ben Franklin store...soda fountain, creaky wood floors and the scent of popcorn. Ahhhhhhh.

Very cool photo!!!

Just enjoying my last few days of holidays before I head back to work on Tuesday. I am hoping to be able to sit on my patio tomorrow morning, drink my tea, and enjoy looking at my garden after all the hard work I have done to it this past week!

Hope you have lovely weather this weekend Reena!

were any photographers stung in the making of that photo? So far it's been rainy and tomorrow we have some birthdays to celebrate. The 4th of July is a bigger event around here.
