It is dark and rainy today
and I hear our mild weather
is departing tomorrow
after clinging
so tenaciously
into this December
my mind wanders
to little birds' feet
their delicacy
and intricacy
as they grasp
tightly
onto their perch
until it is time to depart
sort of like my little redbud leaf
small and delicate
still clinging tenaciously
until
it also decides
it is time to go.
I will miss it.

Reena, wonderful series of photos and thoughts. Thanks for sharing these.
Lovely post Reena.
The mild weather has hung on here, but today it turned decidedly cold, with the strong wind.
I often wonder how these tiny bundles of feathers survive such conditions.
A wonderful post Reena... it's always a treat to see your wonderful images.
Great sequence!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
These are all great photos, but the one with the single lonely leaf is amazing! Love it...
Beautiful photos, Reena! I love the water drops on the branches, too!
Birds are absolutely fascinating to watch...now that I'm retired I try to sit outside at least once a day to watch them and learn their calls.

I love this post! Especially the little song sparrow? at the very end. I have heard that birds feet have a locking mechanism that kicks in when they are perched, so they are able to hold on in the wind and to sleep.
By the way, when I read your title, I got scared!!!! Didn't know if you were quitting blogging, or really sick! Whew!!!
Your photos are a joy to see Reena. The water droplets and light mist set the scene beautifully. Love it the way the chickadee's tiny foot was not designed to cling to so thin a twig. Great shots all.
So sweet! Beautiful shots of those lovely birds, and your words are a delight.
Your travellers are so lovely, red leaf included.
Wonderful pictures you share with us. I love your bird pictures especially and the words that goes with the pictures!. Well I'm a bit rusty in wrinting in english - hope you know what I mean?
Lovely birds in your neigbourhood!
What a beautiful series this is Reena!
Our spring-like weather left us just about 6 hours ago.
Snowing like crazy now!!
Fantastic post! Makes my heart sing!
aw your little leaf is hanging in there...our turn is coming tomorrow too...love the pics of the birds...
What a wonderful meditation you have created Reena! Such a nice rhythm to your pictures and words. These pictures are so subdued and moody but lovely just the same, just the kind of light we have been experiencing here in Michigan.
I have been nursing a Red Bud along for three years now and it finally took off this year, praise be!
Wow, what a beautiful series of picture. I love them all!
Sweet images with a sweet sentiment.
All so beautiful! Creation is simply amazing!!
Lovely verse and fantastic birds.
Lovely birdy post! Great shots!
So beautiful and nostalgic. Our mild weather is also disappearing.
It makes you wonder how those little feet can hang on so tight during some of those winds!
Terrific images!

Reena, beautiful images of house finch, chickadee and goldfinch. Those feet are designed to lock without further energy consumption, but that's not really the point of your post, rather how everything needs to let go at the proper time - thoughtprovoking.
awww, i don't like it, either... it has snowed twice here, already, & we never get snow before January... strange weather! =)
Those little feet are so tenacious in the wind and cold.
Your words are really beautiful. Everything, leaves, birds even insects all are very special and unique. I love watching spiders as they weave their webs. It's so fascinating.
you can really wodner what they are looking at or thinking on. :)
so beautiful
xoxo the egg out west.
Lets hope they hold on a little while yet :-)
Gorgeous . Just gorgeous. The words are like a song. Loved the whole post
our birds have literally disappeared. i know they'll come back once there's snow on the ground, but for now, i am missing them terribly......
Another lovely post. :)
What a beautifully composed, thought-provoking post, Reena!

I think all in the animal kingdom hang on tenaciously to the very end - even we humans. Lovely post reena. Cheers!!
